Our Great Christmas Clear Out
I Can’t Believe It’s December Already!
Which can only mean one thing; that Christmas is just around the corner.
I don’t know about you, but I like to have a bit of a clear out just before Christmas. I’ve done it for the past few years now and find it a cathartic experience. I go through the children’s stuff and give away anything they really don’t use and chuck the things that need chucking.
This year we’re passing on the good stuff to the doggy ladies to sell at their car boot sale to raise money for the stray dogs. Previous years we’ve given things to charities helping less fortunate families on the island have a good Christmas, and to the local children’s home.
It feels good knowing that our unwanted items can make all the difference to someone else or help keep a hungry dog fed.
Having A Christmas Clear Out…
Makes room for the clutter that Christmas brings.
I love Christmas and all the glitz and twinkle, but the amount of decorations we have undoubtedly clutters the house, sorting things out sort of dulls the clutter.
The children will receive gifts from family, so at least they have drawers and space for any new clothing or bits they are given.
This Week…
I spent three days psyching myself up to getting on with the task of sorting and clearing out and one day actually sorting out.
By the time everyone came home from wherever they had been, the house looked like a bit of a battle field, with what looked like everything, everywhere.
I very nearly had a breakdown, as I am not the tidiest of people and what the house looked like, and the picture I had in my head were two very different images and I wasn’t sure the images were ever going to match!
Once everyone started mucking in things came together much faster. My husband helped move things around and went and bought dinner for us (I love gyros pita!). And the children sorted the things I asked them to, without fuss.
Next Week…
I plan to sort through and clean my kitchen cupboards and I just can’t wait (mmm, really?)!
Do you have clear out before Christmas? Or do manage to keep on top of the clutter all year round?
