Braving The Cold… For The Dogs

Oh my! The things we do for our dogs! Yesterday morning it was so cold it took me five minutes to defrost the windscreen. Five minutes with the blower going and using water from the hose. It was bitterly cold.

I put the dogs in the car waiting for a sign that they didn’t want to head out for a walk. Just a refusal to leave the warmth of the house would have been enough. That, of course, never happened. They happily bound into the car and patiently waited while the windscreen de-iced.

I, on the other hand, was wrapped up like a dog’s dinner. Jumpers (and I mean jumpers), woolly hat, gloves and a fleece jacket.

I’m so glad we braved the cold and didn’t go later. The views were beautifully clear with that early morning feel. And we came across a female hoopoe going about her early morning business. When I saw her I froze (the dogs never noticed her), she froze, we eyed each other and whilst I was slowly reaching for my phone to take a photo, she flitted off. So I may not have taken a photo, but we did have a moment that made my day.

I love this view at the best of times, but yesterday with the sun breaking through the clouds it looked very dramatic. I took this photo on my phone with the only tweak being using the de-haze tool.

    I had to look up, hoopoe, it's beautiful. So many moments we have to commit to memory if only we could blink and take the perfect shot each time. No respectable dog is going to back down from any kind of weather, especially if you're bonded. I remember my fav pooch who supposedly hated storms and water (she was a black lab and owned by my clueless cousin) who braved one of the stormiest night with us in the garage with the door open and the rain blowing in. That animal was not going to move a hair as long as we were out there (drinking). Although it's been cold and gloomy enough for me to turn on the gas fireplace this year, people have been going nuts because we've had a few days of sunshine. It can be in the 30s or 20s and the word, "beautiful" is still bandied about. This is with nothing but browning grass outside. I've decided to keep my car in the garage every day and brave the extra stairs just in case it actually snows. I'm looking at unbelievable snow storms in Virginia and North Carolina on the news right now. It's so much worse for the south because they don't invest in all the snow equipment we have up here. But honestly, I've yet to wear my winter coat and was running around in a hoodie yesterday (it was 30 something).

    Brrr! I am cold just thinking about it. I love the winter holidays, but not the weather. We've already had 3 snows (including a blizzard!) and it's not even officially winter yet. Blech!     A beautiful shot! We had a dog when I was a teenager and I hated going out in the cold to walk her, but of course it had to be done. There was one good thing though... She HATED the rain and wouldn't go out in it... so I never got wet :D

    Our Little Bit went to the bridge October 2015, but when she was here for almost 13 years we made sure whatever she wanted she got. We've braved the heat and the cold to get her outside and sniffing all the scents there were and to romp and play.     I'm glad I don't have dogs, you are brave...but they say the brave are rewarded and it sounds like you were on that morning. The photo is stunning x

    It looks like a great spot Debs and I can see de-haze has added to the picture. I am, nonetheless, satggered ot hear of you having to defrost the car like that. I guess it makessense if you live on an island but I don't think of Greece reaching those tempratures. i must also plead ignorance as to what a hopooe is!
