It’s Winter In Zakynthos!
It’s been a longtime coming, but winter is finally here!
Up until a couple of weeks ago the weather here had been springlike, with warm days and chilly nights, but this week all that has changed. It is now officially winter in Zakynthos.
The fire is being kept going all day (our house, with it’s high ceilings and old marble floors, is excellent at keeping the heat out in the summer, but my! it’s cold in the winter).
There has been (exceedingly) light snowfall reported on parts on the island, not enough to settle though and Kefalonia is looking like something out of an old Western film, with snow settled half way down the mountain.
Yesterday was cold, wet and windy and until today the daytime temperatures hadn’t risen above 8C this week, which for Zakynthos in winter, is cold.
Clothing wise we’ve been layering up, which is a nightmare as washing is hard to dry at the best of times in the winter, due to the damp air, but when it’s raining and horrible the washing just piles up.
My daughter has taken to wearing tights under her jeans to school and I’ve bought a nice thick bobble hat (love ’em!) for our Sunday walks (last Sunday it was 6C where we walked and I really don’t do the cold anymore).
It’s even been to cold to go for a run as the cold air triggers my asthma (I know any excuse!).
The temperatures are expected to drop again at the weekend, but we can’t complain, not really. The winter in Zakynthos will be over before we know it, it doesn’t linger long and before we know it summer will upon us.
What’s the winter like where you are? What’s your favourite season?
