Spring Flowers On Zakynthos
It feels like weeks ago since I wrote my first post of this year about the spring flowers on Zakynthos, but there are so many pretty spring flowers growing wild up the hills, in the fields and even along the sides of the roads that I wanted to share some more photographs.
I am no expert on any kind of flower, so don’t know the names of many of them, although with the guidance of people who do know, I am very slowly learning. I actually never realized how many different types of orchid there are on Zakynthos and am learning to spot them.
Practicing Taking Close-Ups
Having received my first DSLR camera for Christmas I’ve had a lot to learn about taking photos and I think my photo taking skills have improved slightly (even though I do say so myself), but my close-up photos do leave a lot to be desired.
Often the flower I want in focus is out of focus, with the background being in focus and sometimes the flower is almost in focus. I put the bad photographs down to me being a little too impatient and clicking before the camera has focused or me being a little shaky handed as the flower is too low down or at a funny angle (I know, a real photographer would get belly down to get a good shot, but I’ll save that until I’m walking on my own without dogs). I have also wondered if I get a little too close to the subject.
So recently I have been concentrating and practicing taking a little extra breath before pressing the button and not getting to close-up with the camera. And what more perfect subject for practicing taking close-ups than taking photographs of the spring flowers on Zakynthos?
Spring Flowers On Zakynthos…
My More Successful Close-Up Photos
Pale Pink Rock Roses
A White Rock Rose
I love this close-up of an orchid. Don’t you think it looks a bit like a jelly gremlin?
A curry flower (not in full bloom), which if you rub it does actually smell of curry.
Another of my favorites, that I don’t know the name of.
I like the splash of purple against the dead branch covered with raindrops.
Yellow spring flowers are everywhere.
The trees are in full blossom too. I think this is an almond blossom, although it may well be a cherry blossom.
Some fields are full of a variety of spring flowers in different colours, which is quite a pretty sight.
So there you have it. A selection of close-up photographs of some of the spring flowers in Zakynthos. I still have a lot of practice to do, which I really don’t mind.
Is there an abundance of spring flowers where you live? Which flowers are your favourites?
