Early Morning Horses
This winter I have been walking regularly with the Zakynthos Walking Group. The group is growing in popularity, with a mix of ages, abilities and nationalities, but the one thing that we all have on common despite these differences is that we all enjoy the walks and are seeing parts of Zakynthos we would never have ventured to alone.
The walks usually take place on a Sunday with walks ranging in distance and difficulty. Last week though, Derek (group leader and part mountain goat) asked if anyone would like to join him on a ‘challenging’ midweek exploration walk up to the top of Skopos. He wanted to put together a route that he had worked out in parts, but never done as a whole.
Were We Up For A Challenge? Of Course!
A small group of us met up at nine o’clock Thursday morning (the weather could not have been more perfect after a very stormy and miserable Wednesday, it was almost like it was meant to be!) and off we went.
To say the walk was a challenge is no exaggeration, it was hard going, but the views were worth it and, of course, I ended up taking far too many photos.
There were more than several photographs that I could use for this and in the end I chose one I call Early Morning Horses, for no other reason than it was taken in the morning and is of horses.
It may not be the best picture where lighting is concerned, but I do like the way the sun is softening everything in the picture as it is rising over Skopos. The colours of the scenery were all shades of green and brown, which I think sort of shows in the picture, although I’m not sure any picture could do justice to the views and scenery.
I did wonder what these two early morning horses made of the nine of us as we traipsed past taking photos like there was no tomorrow.
What is your favourite part of the picture?
