It seems that we have a very naughty dog in our midst…
We have five daft dogs and on the whole they are pretty well behaved. They have their toys, they know basic commands (Alphie I have taught to do some tricks fro which him and I am very proud!), they tolerate the Morris – the not so feral anymore cat, they can be let off to run up the fields without disappearing (Flossie, the once dumped dog has to be watched and kept close or she’d probably disappear chasing cats, lizards and butterflies, but she listens…Most of the time) and they bark at the postman (that’s allowed, right?). Apart from a couple of incidents as puppies they know what they can and cannot chew…Or so I thought…
The other morning…
I’d left them in their beds as I usually do when I go for a run. They know the routine and happily head to their beds when told.
When I returned I did some stretches leaving the little dogs in the bedroom for an extra half an hour. Lying on the floor doing stretches never fails to put the dogs in a playful mood, which doesn’t make for a good stretching session.
Which turned out to be an expensive mistake that day…
Anyone with dogs will know how excited they can get when they haven’t seen you for a full ten minutes (you’d think it was a lifetime!). Our gate squeaks when opened so they knew I was back and were so excited (you’d think I’d been gone a week!). After a bit they quietened down and I thought nothing of it.
My mistake. When I opened the door to let them out of the bedroom I was greeted by a mass of shredded tissues. If I wasn’t letting them out they were going to ‘kill’ the tissue box and a mighty fine job they’d done too.
But then I noticed, in amongst the shredded tissues, the remains of my sons pride and joy…His Apple Earpods had been chewed beyond fixability!…
His little dog Flossie had somehow managed to get hold of his Earpods and had totally destroyed them…And she knew that she’d been a naughty dog (experts may say that dogs don’t know these things…I beg to differ!) It was written all over her face. When I opened the bedroom door she stayed in her bed looking exceedingly sheepish, whilst the other little dog greeted me like a long lost friend.
At first I was cross…
At myself for not letting them out sooner (but they don’t usually chew things they shouldn’t, so why should I have?). My crossness soon turned to concern as I realized that she may well have swallowed some of the Earpods, so I searched through the tissues for all the bits. Luckily she hadn’t swallowed any parts that I could see.
Her punishment was a couple of shaming photos and this post telling the world what a naughty dog she was.
Was it fate?…
The day after the EarPod chewing incident was Gregs 18th birthday and Catherine (his sister) had no idea what to get him and he didn’t know what he wanted…So she bought him a new pair of EarPods for his phone!
So all’s well that ends well.
Do you have a naughty dog? I’d be interested to hear your stories…
