ET’s Distant Cousin
At the moment one of my ‘must do’ tasks is to go through my camera SD card and either delete or save photos. You know what it’s like? Too many photos taken and not enough time to sort through them. I did go through a stage of transferring photos to sort into desktop folders, thinking that would prompt me into going through them. Did it? No, not at all.
To be honest, the majority could do with ditching, but I like to go through them just to see settings I used and what effect it had. It’s my learning curve.
Today I popped my SD card into my laptop, purely on the hunt for a Sunday photo. I did try taking photos of the moon during the week, I think it was the harvest moon which is a golden cracker of a moon, but with no luck.
Whilst trawling through the photos I came across a selection I took of a tiny praying mantis. I remember it clearly. I was seeing Mum off, checking she hadn’t pilfered any of the family silver (the things that go on in this family, you wouldn’t believe! Remind me one day, to tell you where it all started. My parents had the cutest/ funniest Christmas decoration and we pilfered it from right under their noses. It wasn’t a small decoration either, it was teamwork of the highest level. The funniest thing was they never noticed for days… Maybe their age was on our side?).
A Praying Mantis
Now back to the subject of My Sunday Photo…
As I opened the gate a praying mantis, that I swear was ET’s distant cousin appeared. Just look at it? Suddenly frisking Mum down didn’t seem quite as important anymore ( it’s not like we really have any family silver), but taking photos of ET’s distant cousin did.
It wasn’t easy to photograph and it was surprisingly quick. They are quite vicious little creatures and this one kept striking a defensive pose. They are funny little creatures to watch, but did you know they really aren’t as cute as they look? Praying mantis are fearless and deadly predators.
My Sunday Photos
ET’s distant cousin striking a pose, before legging it across the gate. There seems to have been a trend of bright green bugs around here this summer.
It moved at an impressive speed. Stopping every now and again, appearing to take in its surroundings.
If you look closely at its eyes, I swear you can see it’s pupils staring back at the camera.
Having got to where it wanted to be. We share one last loving look. Can you see its pupils? You are staring into the eyes of a natural born killer… Oh, and I’m pretty sure, ET’s distant cousin too.
