Signs Of Spring
This week I had a couple of photos ready to use as My Sunday Photo, but I went with this photo even though I used it in my walking the Skinari coastal trail post… Why?… Because I liked it and it reminds me that spring is slowly happening.
The Halcyon days that we usually get in January never happened, and the winter feels like it’s been going on forever. However, there are small signs of spring happening. The almond trees are starting to blossom and last week I saw my first field full of daisies. It’s small things like that that make me happy.
When I saw the daisies, I couldn’t help but get down on my hands and knees in the mud to get a photo. And it was wet! It did make me laugh though. Just looking at the daisies through my viewfinder made me feel genuinely happy. Lying in the mud without an apparent care in the world made me feel like a child again.
Anyway, I didn’t go with that photo today. It was close. But the photo that trumped it in my mind was this almond tree in blossom with a bumblebee busy doing its thing. I thought it was far too early and chilly for bees to be out of hibernation now, but apparently not. It’s obviously nature’s way of letting us know spring is coming.
It won’t be long before the swallows start to reappear either. The earliest we’ve seen them is around the 17th of February, but that was a much milder winter. This year we’ll be lucky to see them before March, and when they do appear I’ll be sure to let you know.

What are the signs of spring where you are?
