You know those times when you are dashing out the door in a race against time? When you’ve left the phone ringing (not unusual in this house) and you really don’t need yet another distraction?
Well, that was me last Wednesday. One minute I had all morning and the next minute, the morning had gone, and it was time to be elsewhere.
As I left the house, bag in hand, I happened to glance over to where my daughter had haphazardly slung her bikini to dry. As I was making a mental note to self to introduce her (yet again) to the washing line and clothes horse, I noticed the swallowtail butterfly just settled there, seemingly sunning itself, on her bottoms (brave butterfly!).
Of course I had to go back into the house to fetch my big girls camera. Seriously, what else was I expected to do? Leave and hope that Mr. Swallowtail butterfly would still be sunning itself later?… I don’t think so! It was too good an opportunity to miss and to be honest I half expected it to flutter off before I returned with camera in hand…
But it never did!
The first photo I took was from a distance. Worried that I would disturb it, causing it to fly off. When I realised that it wasn’t in a rush to fly off (obviously it knew how good it looked!), I took my time and took some better, close up photos.
After several minutes of photo taking, I came to my senses and remembered I had somewhere to be! Luckily I didn’t get held up behind a convoy of of quad bikes and the traffic lights were in my favour, so I wasn’t late… The photos were obviously meant to be!
A Rather Handsome Looking Swallowtail Butterfly
This photo of a swallowtail butterfly is so much better than my previous one. And there was no stalking to be done.
Would you have missed such a photo opportunity?
