Intrepid Down!
Who says island life isn’t exciting? No one?… Okay. Well, in case you did imagine that living on an island was quiet and unexciting, I’m going to share with you an image that may rock your world… Or it may not.
I’m part of a small, but a fun group that we named The Intrepid Walking Group. It’s an offshoot group of the Zakynthos Walking Group (a group that meets every Sunday to walk trails on this beautiful island).
The Intrepids (as we like to call ourselves), get together every now and again and head out for a midweek exploratory walk or path clearing ‘expedition’. Last Thursday six ‘Intrepids’ and two dogs met up and headed towards Skopos. One of us armed with loppers and one of us armed with a camera. The mission was to find and clear a path from Skopos to Daphne with the hope of eventually working out a route to Gerakas.
Our exploration was cut short when one of us disappeared into a deep crevice. The words “Intrepid down! Intrepid down” may well still be echoing around Skopos. I’d like to think that on a quiet night in summer people in the area will be able to hear the words still blowing on the breeze.
My Sunday Photo
If you look closely you can just about make out one of us in the crevice… And just for the record, I had handed my camera back so I could help the lady out, but when I heard her laughing I just had to take a photo. Who wouldn’t have?
She was pretty cut from the brambles and had sprained her ankle, but her sense of humour remained intact. Luckily we hadn’t gone too far into the undergrowth and the track at the end was drivable, so a car was bought up to up to take her back down the mountain.
So be honest. Did you imagine that living on a Greek island was quite so exciting?

Hi Nat, it was quite deep and the over growth made it look worse. Yesterdays walk was cancelled due to torrential rain, so she has plenty of time to fully recover for next week. Thank you for stopping by. xx
