My 4 Top Tips To Feeling Good
Feeling tired? Fed up? Or just know you can feel better, but can’t quite seem to get there? We’ve all been there at some point or other. Sometimes life gets on top of us and we stop looking after ourselves so well. We put family, the house and even our pets needs before our own…
And we shouldn’t!…Not really.
What good are we if we don’t take care of ourselves? To be able to keep giving our all, we have to put something back in the pot, so to speak. Easier said than done, I know.
How Do I Know?
Summers are always busy over here. Life on a Greek island is manic in summer and beautifully quiet in winter. If we don’t take care in summer we end up not feeling good or even worse, burning out before winter.
This summer has been a toughie, I’ve been pulled in all directions. Working, dropping off there and picking up here (just call me James) all the while trying to keep the house sort of sanitary *hysterical laughter*, making sure underwear is clean and keeping the family and pets fed (sort of).
My morning runs went out the window, as did my decent nights’ sleep. I start work at 9 am, but was having to pick my daughter up from work every night at 11.30pm. No matter what time I go to bed I still wake up 6-6.30ish and any less than seven to eight hours sleep on a regular basis makes me miserable.
To stay awake at night I started snacking on Doritos, cheese and sweet chilli sauce. It was my way of staying awake, after all, who can sleep and eat once they are past the age of two?… You’d be surprised!
My husband hasn’t been able to help as he works every evening and has been since April and will continue to do so until the end of October.
I hate feeling naff and have spent time thinking about what it is that makes me feel good and able to cope better. So here I share with you my tips to feeling good… And surprise, surprise they aren’t anything we don’t already know!
My 4 Tips To Feeling Good
Now I bet none of that comes as a total surprise, does it? It didn’t to me either, but it did make me realise just how important it is to make time to get enough sleep, get enough exercise, drink enough water and eat a healthy-ish balanced diet (there is always a place for sugar and Doritos in my life, just in moderation).
None of those tips is hard to achieve. Not really. Not if we set our mind to it and focus on the results of making that bit of effort. Baby steps.
What affected me most was definitely lack of exercise followed by not getting enough sleep. Exercise and sleep make me happy, a buzzy kind of happy. A kind of happy that makes me feel able to cope with anything. This summer I turned into a moaner (ask my daughter).
Getting Back On Track
I’m back to getting a good nights sleep again as my daughter is back at school. I now head to bed at around 10.10pm, that may sound strange, but it does tend to be the time my body is telling me it’s time for bed.
I’m getting into the habit of exercising later in the day rather than first thing. It still feels wrong at the moment (in a good kind of way), but it will feel normal, soon!... It will!… It will!
I’m happy with the amount of water I’m drinking again now. I can feel when I’ve not drunk enough, it makes me feel groggy and sluggish (as does lack of sleep) but knowing that didn’t seem help this summer, I still failed to drink enough water.
The Doritos, chilly and cheese is back to being a weekly treat rather than a daily necessity. My chocolate craving is under control and our meals are back to being reasonably healthy-ish.
It’s not been easy getting back on track. Bad habits are hard to break, but it is worth making the effort to get back on track. I feel so much better and happier for doing so.
Now It’s Your Turn…
What are your tips to feeling good? How do you get back on track? Do you find it easy to get back on track?
