Giri, Zakynthos
Sunday’s walk was up to the masts above Giri, Zakynthos. The low cloud over the hills gave them a mystical feeling, which was perfect for the day before Halloween and the area is said to have links to witchcraft and what not. How true that is I haven’t a clue, but it adds an unsettling interest to the walk!
After the rain, we had at the end of last week there were plenty of huge muddy puddles. Which, of course, our daftest dog Alphie insisted on drinking from. Only to pay for later… I now know where the saying as sick as a dog comes from because that night he was one very vomitous little dog!
The weather did mute the view over Zakynthos slightly, but I think you’ll agree it was well worth the walk.
Here is what we saw…
Through My Lens #3
Imagine waking up surrounded by this scenery every morning!
The village of Giri, Zakynthos is nestled in some beautiful surroundings.
You can just about make out Giri, Zakynthos through the trees.
The sun did try to make an appearance at times.
The low cloud and mist did put a haze over the view across Zakynthos. But it was breathtaking none the less.
Not having a wide angled lens, I have to make do with stitching and cropping photos.
And from a slightly different angle.
With a combined age of one hundred and forty, this pair were the ‘oldies’ on the walk. My hope is to be that fit when I’m their age… Love you, Mum!
The cloud was very low in places adding a mystical feel.
Different parts of the island have different terrain. Notice there’s not an olive tree in sight here?
Just because the sky looked so heavenly!
On the walk back down I spotted these pretty crocus-like flowers poking through the stones… And to think I can’t get anything to grow in decent soil!
I wonder if losing a horn forces a goat to walk in circles?
These old, hand-built stone walls withstand the test of time better than some modern walls.
It’s not often we see such green fields of grass here on Zakynthos! It reminded me of the UK.
The recent rain left plenty of muddy puddles, which for some reason one of our dog’s favoured drinking over fresh water!
A beautiful part of the island to live. Except I would expect it to be very damp in the winter. Saying that, though, the whole of Zakynthos is very damp in the winter!
And back into the village.
I wonder if these are those same baby goats we saw here last winter? But a lot bigger of course!
This week my husband didn’t spot one thing of ‘interest’!
Where is your favourite place to walk?
