The Temperature Is Rising
As some of you may know, over here in Greece we’ve barely had a winter. We’ve had very little rain, which isn’t a good thing and the temperature has been well above average. In fact, it’s safe to say that we can probably count the amount of bad days (weather wise or that would just be plain silly!) we’ve had this winter on two hands.
Last weekend the temperature really climbed, it reached the high twenties on our outside thermometer that sits in the shade on our balcony. On last Sundays walk Alphie, one of our little dogs kept refusing to walk as he was feeling the heat.
On Tuesday night I found myself pacing the floors because I was too hot, now granted it could have been the start of what women of a certain age go through, but I have a feeling that if it was, Neal would not have been feeling it too (he gets restless in his sleep when he’s hot) or he could just have chasing rabbits in his sleep. The biggest pain of it is that once I’m awake I battle to go back to sleep.
When I did eventually climb back into bed and doze off, I was rudely awakened by a mosquito – that bit me twice! A sure sign that the temperature is rising. I should think myself lucky that I don’t really get a reaction to mosquito bites, but knowing it was around and hearing it’s irritating buzzing noise was enough to wake me up again.
This week we’ve also had the windows and doors open until quite late, and not had to light the fire as it’s been so warm. It is a little cooler today and the forecast for the weekend is cooler with a smattering of rain on Sunday, which is a good thing.
If the temperature doesn’t stay down and we go into summer early it’s going to make for a very long and hot summer. We are in desperate need of rain, preferably before the tourists start to arrive in earnest as there are plans for water restrictions. We are hoping the restrictions won’t affect us too much as we live in a rural area where people farm, so fingers crossed we will still get water piped to us on a daily basis, maybe not as much, but some is better than none.
What’s the weather like where you are? I’ve noticed on Instagram that people are sharing photos of snow!
