Feeling Old
Feeling old must be par for the course when your youngest turns eighteen. Last Friday my not so little anymore girl turned eighteen. I have to pinch myself for it to sink in.
Where my little girl with the chubby thigh rolls has gone I’m not really sure. There are some traits she hasn’t lost and probably never will. From a young age, she has had the ability to shoot a person down with a mere look, in fact, she has perfected ‘the look’ perfectly. She has also never suffered fools lightly, probably not a bad thing, sometimes life is just too short.
Legally she is old enough to drive and to pick up her own school report. Yay!
On Her Birthday
She didn’t want to do anything major to celebrate, so we had a small family barbecue. Of course, it was chucking it down, but on went the meat.
I did have a bit of a dilemma when one of her friends telephoned me to ask if a few of them could come around to our house to give her a small surprise party. I had no problem with her friends coming around as they are a good bunch. The problem is that she likes surprises as much as I do… Not a lot!
She also had an exam the morning after that she had intended to study for. And it wasn’t that she didn’t plan to celebrate with her friends. She did, they all met up for a meal on Saturday night.
Anyway, I said yes and a plan was hatched to sneak the girls in the back door whilst my daughter was studying.’Operation sneak in’ went so well not even the dogs barked!
Although I could see that at first, she wasn’t over the moon with the ‘surprise’, it didn’t take her long to throw caution to the wind and bugger the revision. My husband and son headed out to play pool and I retreated to the bedroom.
It meant a lot to her that her friends wanted to surprise her and I am so glad she relaxed a spent a few hours just having fun.

Because It Had To Be Done…
Flashback to just a few weeks short of eighteen years.
Her first Christmas and obviously the person behind the camera was a fool!
Her love of books started at a young age. At eighteen months she wouldn’t put them down either.
To surprise party or not to surprise party? What would you have done?
