Days Are Shortening

That’s a bit of an obvious statement really considering the time of year. All summer I’ve managed to take the dogs for weekend walks. I don’t usually work Saturday and Sunday mornings and if I do it’s only later. Which has made it perfect for walking the dogs and avoiding the heat of the day. Don’t get me wrong in July and August even 6.30 am is hot, but it’s a heat the dogs can handle and if not, we turn back.

Back in May, June and July I would be up walking in the hills by 6.30am. It’s a beautiful time of day and not surprisingly there is only one other lady who likes to walk that early.

Now, I don’t head up there until 7.30am and what a difference. The days are shortening and noticeably so. It’s bearly light at that time of day. When the sun appears it’s a bright orange sphere and just for a few moments, Zakynthos is bathed in a beautiful golden light.

This photo was taken on my phone at 7.33am and I just wanted to share what was a very beautiful moment this morning. In just a few moments the sky lightens, the sun loses that golden look and a new day is born.

    That's a lovely sunrise. I'm impressed that you get up early enough to see it. I love the vestiges of the dark night hanging above the brilliant fiery rising sun. (I'm a night owl so I usually see the sunrise. I'd have to live in Alaska to see the sunrise, lol).

      Hi Mary, you wouldn't be so impressed if you saw me around sunset. I'm a knackered heap. I wake up bright and early without ever having to set an alarm, which suits me as I enjoy the peace and quiet those early hours bring. Thank you for stopping by. xx

    Ohh, so gorgeous! Those early sunsets always throw me for a loop. It changes the way I do my blog photography and schedule clients. Totally different golden and twilight hours!

      Hi Anne, the sunrise never fails to make me stop and appreciate it. It's a wow! moment of the day. My two were like that too, changing their sleeping habits with the light. A couple of weeks ago I thought I had too, as I started waking up later, but I must just have been tired as I'm back to my normal again. Thank you for stopping by. xx

      Hi Fiona, you'd be welcome anytime. I never ran with the dogs, but at the moment I'm taking a break from running until I can see a Doctor about hip pain, so the dogs have really benefited. I don't think I will ever get sick of the view over Zakynthos from anywhere on the island, but to think I'm lucky enough to have those views almost on my doorstep? I appreciate them on every walk I take... I'm also glad to learn that my new phone takes a far better photo than my old one. Thank you for stopping by. xx

    Love that pic Debs. The blue of the sky is amazing and that's a great silhouette effect. And yes, the days are shortening massively. I got up at 5am especially yesterday to go and get pics of the sunrise. Stupid of me really. it didn't rise until almost 7am. Doh.

      Hi John, it's a really pretty time of the day, but it passes in the blink of an eye. I'd love to have a go at HDR photography on a scene like this, but with my camera only being entry level it has its limits... You won't be the first person to have done that to get a planned photograph. Just think the next time you can have a lie in and still catch the sun rising! Thank you for dropping by. xx
