The Keeping It Real Link Up 13/02/2018
Hello there people & fellow bloggers & welcome to the very first Keeping It Real Link Up!
How are you all? I can’t believe it’s half term already in the UK! I hope the weather turns out better than predicted or there is going to be a lot of parents and children bouncing off walls! Is that bouncing I can hear already? Haha, I don’t envy you one bit!
It’s pancake day today! Now that’s something to do in the kitchen with older children, even the younger ones can plaster topping on them. I do enjoy a pancake or two or three, don’t you?
We favour the sweet variety in this house with the traditional lemon and sugar topping being a favourite followed closely by a Nutella with banana and biscuit topping.
Are your children on half term this week? What are your plans? What’s your favourite pancake topping?
Isn’t it funny and typical that for months when I co-hosted the #MMBC I was happily twittering away about my week, but now I’m running a link up where everyone can share their week I’ve gone blank? I seem to be suffering from an anxiety-induced brain freeze!… *Deep breath and think*…
This week much of my spare time has been taken over by behind the scene blog issues. The issue started a couple of weeks ago and it’s been a right pain in the bum. When writing a post the editor was lagging, now I’m no super typist, so if it couldn’t keep up with my fifteen words a minute typing speed, there must be a problem.
After several ‘live chats’ with my hosting company, we have got to the bottom of the problem. Not only that, but the nice people at customer service also updated some of the codes which should help speed things up a little. Okay, so initially they did it to solve the problem, which it didn’t.
It turns out the problem was Google Chrome! For whatever reason, (maybe a recent update?) Google Chrome was causing the WordPress Editor to lag. I’m now giving the Microsoft Edge a try. I don’t know anyone else who uses it, so it’s going to be interesting, if not then it’s Mozilla Firefox here I come!
Also my blog isn’t displaying properly on our desktop, when it’s fine on the laptop. Which is making me think it could even be a recent update we had on the router! Arrrrgggghhhhh!
What browser do you favour? How do you sort out your blog issues?
My Crochet Elephant
I am so happy. My little crochet elephant project now has four legs and I have turned a crochet learning curve (the hard way)… No one told me that UK and US have different crochet stitch names for the same stitch. I got suspicious when my first two elephant legs were very holey. I was puzzled…How was the stuffing meant to stay in?
Well, it turns out I had been following tutorials for the US double crochet stitch and not the UK one (which is the same as the US single crochet stitch!)… Now I know. I almost cried as I unraveled those first two legs.
It hasn’t put me off though. I’ve been looking at crochet hook sets on eBay, after the elephant, I’d like to crochet myself a pair of wrist warming finger-less gloves.
It has been a week of living and learning!
Do you crochet? Have you ever been caught out by the different stitches and terminology?
Recently I’ve been having the oddest dilemma ever. I’ve not worked twelve months of the year since leaving the UK many, many years ago. Living on a Greek island means there is plenty of work in the summer, but not so much in the winter, which is why people work long hard hours during the summer months and without days off… Don’t start me off!
When we first moved here for several years we had a bar, which I did help run until the children came along. After that I used to pop in during the day to chat with customers, but not to work (chatting cannot count as work, can it?). Then as the children got older I did work part-time during the summer, but it was difficult with my husband working long hours and our son, who’s autistic with added extras, really needed me around. I’m his pillar and the one he turns to.
Last summer I got a job working for a wedding photographer, a varied and interesting job. It’s also an all year round job, which means I’m entitled to holidays! Also because we work long hours in the summer any time we work over our ‘set’ hours we get to take off in the winter. Yay!
Taking time off when I don’t really need to seems really strange. I did have two weeks at Christmas, which I loved. I have also booked two weeks off for Easter and a couple of days at the end of March for a walking weekend on the mainland (I can’t wait!.
I’m off this week for no reason at all, which seems really odd. Although there is plenty I would like to do… Finish that crochet elephant for one. And hopefully get out walking, depending on the weather.
Do you feel strange taking time off? What dictates when you take it?
Our Sunday Walk
The weather this winter has been really miserable, so much so that its effected our Sunday walks. Three Sundays ago, it was cancelled, but some of us braved the rain to stretch our legs. Two Sundays ago it was cancelled due to torrential downpour and the Sunday gone it was touch and go. Some of us managed to meet up later in the day for the walk, but I hate all the shall we shan’t we the weather causes.
I know if I lived in the UK, that would be normal, but I can’t remember having such a miserable winter here for many years. Looking on the positive side at least the farmers should be happy now the olive harvesting is over.
Do you enjoy walking in the rain?
For someone who had brain freeze I didn’t do too bad!
Now on with the link up…

Welcome to The Keeping It Real Link Up 13/02/2018 & Thank You For Stopping By!
The Keeping It Real Link Up 13/02/2018 is about, just that, keeping things real.
The internet has really changed how we view things. It is all too easy to distort reality in our minds, to imagine that we are missing out on things and that everyone else is living far more interesting lives than ourselves.
Bloggers are a community of people from all corners of the globe. We are all ages and come from all walks of life, so why not share what we get up to in our everyday lives? The good and the not so good. The happy and the not so happy. And the plain old mundane. The stuff that makes it real.
The link-up will go live every Tuesday at 6 am (UK time) until 6 am (UK time) on Wednesday, so there’s plenty of time to link up.
The Rules Are Simple:
- Write a post about what you’ve been up to recently.
- Link up.
- Visit other bloggers to see what they’ve been up to. Pop back late to do your bit, by all means, but please don’t link and run.
It would be great if you could add the linky badge somewhere on your blog to help spread the word.
If you would like a retweet, tag me (@ChirpyDebs) using the hashtag #keepingitreal and I will retweet your post.
So what have you been up to recently?
*Please note that posts not following the theme of the link up will be deleted*
