White Christmas In Greece

Not many people realise that Greece gets snow. I mean proper snow. Enough snow to warrant having ski resorts. Most people think sun, sea, sand and ouzo when thinking about holidaying in Greece.

Forget that skiing in the Alps piffle, head for the Peloponnese!

Despite skiing in my younger years, I have never ventured to the ski resorts here. I have heard they are really beautiful places and maybe, one year when funds permit we could venture over for a ski break holiday.

Just the thought brings out a slight competitiveness in me as my husband was quite a proficient water skier in his younger days, but has never snow skied… Let’s just say as non-competitive as I am, it’s a long-standing itch that needs to be scratched!

My Sunday Photos

Last Sunday was Christmas Eve and the Zakynthos Walking Group headed out for a bit of a festive stroll up to one of the many viewpoints at Kiliomenos. It was cold and the view across to the mainland was surprisingly clear. As you see from the photos it was a white Christmas in Greece for some.

      Hi Carlee, it's a shame really that Greece doesn't seem to advertise itself as a ski destination. Maybe the ski resorts just aren't up to standard. I really don't know. Hopefully one day we will get to visit and I can share what it's like. Thank you for dropping by. xx

      Hi Louise, the view across to the mainland is lovely when the mountains are all snowy, although I'm not too keen n the cold wind it brings. I never realised there were ski resorts in Greece until I lived here, it doesn't seem to be common knowledge in the UK. Thank you for stopping by. xx

    Happy New Year Deb x I really didn't know there were ski resorts in Greece. I'm not really into skiing though, took my kids to a ski centre here once and my lad broke his arm! Gorgeous photos as usual x Anne recently posted...Happy New Year!My Profile

      Hi Anne, there certainly are and it seems a shame that Greece doesn't seem to push it for tourism. I remember using an artificial ski slope in the UK, it was just made up of a type of matting and it was so much harder to ski on than snow. Thank you for dropping by. xx

      Hi Becca, most people think of Greece as a summer destination, I don't think it is even pushed as a winter destination, which is a shame. Hopefully one day you will get to ski, it's a fabulous feeling. Thank you for stopping by. xx

An old friend in the UK asked if we'd been swimming over Christmas, whilst there are some people who swim all year round, it takes true grit to get in as it is freezing, I am not one of them.     Ahh Debbie I really miss those mountains with the snow caps. There is one that is called the Sleeping Beauty that we see from the Peleponnese looking towards Mainland near Araxova. Have a very Happy New Year dear friend!!

      Hi Fiona, I do remember snow in Devon back in the 80's and one year even having to walk home from work in Exeter, in unsuitable shoes as public transport was stopped. Flowers do sound preferable to snow. Wishing you a fab 2018 too and thank you for stopping by. xx

    I wasn't aware Greece had ski resorts, but I was aware it had snow. If K2 can be in Kenya then Greece must be able to have snow! I hope you make it to one of the ski resorts one day. Also hoping you had a marvellous Christmas and wishing you all the best for 2018 Debbie.

      Hi John, apparently Northern Greece is beautiful for skiing, but I think the nearest resort to us is only a couple hours drive on the mainland. One day, before I'm too old and run the risk of breaking a hip, I would love to go... We had a fantastic Christmas thank you, hope you did too. Thank you for stopping by. xx
