Shelf Fungi Growing On A Tree
Our very old looking apricot tree has started sprouting fungi and very decorative looking fungi it is too. The tree is old and was probably planted when the house was built after the earthquake in 1953, making it over 64 years old. Is that old for a fruit tree?
Since we have lived here the tree has never looked that healthy compared to other apricot trees and the fruit always drops before it ripens.
Not being a gardener or someone with an ounce of gardening knowledge I turned to Google for enlightenment (don’t we all?). Well, it appears that the appearance of shelf fungi growing on a tree is not a good sign. It is a fair sign that the tree is either dead or diseased and dying.
On seeing the fungi of course I had to get my camera to share just how pretty it was. Don’t be fooled by the blue sky, it’s positively chilly at the moment. Clear and cold.
My Sunday Photos
When I first spotted the shelf fungi there were only a few.
A couple of days later and the trunk was covered in them.
What interesting looking have you seen recently?
