Zakynthos Town At Night
It’s been a rather photoless week for me, not for any particular reason apart from not having had the time. It’s at times like this I realise that there is no such thing as having too many photos backed up as there is always a photo or two to fall back on!
This photo of Zakynthos town at night was taken a few weeks back when it still felt like summer. We were standing waiting for the St. Dennis Day firework display to start. I took several photos (of course) showing the colour changes in the sky as the sunset. The blue sky in this photo made this my favourite.
Zakynthos town is a hive of activity on a summer evening. It does get busy, but if ever you are over this way I would recommend a meal in one of the tavernas. Followed by a nice stroll along the harbour front to aid digestion and to have a good nose at some of the very posh looking boats that park up…. I know boats don’t really park up, but does moor up sound the same?
Here’s a bit of trivia for you, you never know when it may come in handy!
Many people don’t know why Zakynthos is often referred to as Zante too. Zante is the name the Venetians gave Zakynthos when it was under Venetian rule (1484-1797). They also nicknamed the island Il fiore di Levante, which means flower of the East, which I’m guessing is in reference to its beautiful flora and fauna.

Have you ever holidayed in Zakynthos? If not, is it on your holiday destination list?
