Monday Morning Blog Club 04/09/2017
Good morning people & fellow blogger!
How does this Monday morning find you all? Can you believe it’s September already? Hands up who has children going back to school very, very soon, if not today. Double hands up if you gave a sigh of relief as you saw them out the door?
My daughter starts back to school on the 11th September and I can’t believe it’s her last year. Legally here youngsters can leave school at sixteen after they finish gymnasio (high school), but most of them stay on and go to liekeio (also high school, but different) until they are eighteen.
When they come to the end of their final year there are two sets of exams. One set gives them a diploma showing they have completed their schooling. The other exams are for those who want to go onto university and students get marked on a point system. The points they get then dictate the universities they can go to and it’s not easy.
No one I know has ever managed to get on to further education without private extra lessons (I wonder who benefits from them?). Oh, and the subjects are decided for them. They have the choice of two different sets of exams, that’s it, no give. My daughter has to study Ancient Greek, language and text, Latin, English (no extra lessons needed there), modern Greek essay and Greek history.
The two subjects I have an issue with are Ancient Greek and Latin. They have not even started studying Latin at school yet and they have to take exams at the end of this school year? Ancient Greek they start studying at thirteen, and would you believe they have more Ancient Greek lessons than modern in school. They are two subjects that are really going to come in really handy in the real world!
It’s a bonkers system, so don’t get me started!… Okay, so that was a bit of a mini rant, but I had to let off steam somewhere!… Breath in, and breath out… Relax…
Life is still busy, although I did have a day off today. I was looking forward to meeting Mum for a swim this morning, but it was cloudy and a bit blowy, so we decided to go for a walk instead. We did laugh at how spoiled we must be as all the sunbeds were still jam packed with people.
We ended up walking from one end of Lagana beach right up to the far end of Crystal beach. A total of roughly ten kilometers and it felt good.
I deliberately took a running break in August because of the heat and life being busy. Even though it still hot, I really must put those running shoes back on this week. Something I am dreading to start with!
So how has your week been? What have you been up to? Are you a parent who has been counting the days to when your munchkins head back to school? What will you do with that extra time?… Spend the next few weeks catching up with yourself, but before the madness that is Christmas descends?
Now on with the link-up…
