Monday Morning Blog Club 28/08/2017
Good morning people & fellow bloggers!
How does this Monday morning, the last in August, find you? Have you had enough of summer and are looking forward to autumn? Maybe you are in a part of the world that is heading into summer?
One of the things about the blogging community I love is that we are such a diverse bunch. People from different countries, cultures, and beliefs blend together nicely in the world of blogging and that’s what keeps it so interesting!
My Sister Left
It had to happen. It was wonderful to see them and we had a fantastic time, but after three it is nice to be back to normal (ish). Is that unfair? Or maybe a little too honest? I don’t think so. They were ready to go home too, but they’ve already booked a room for next year, which makes parting easier.
St. Dennis’ Celebrations
August the 24th is the day Zakynthos celebrates the local Saint, St. Dennis. A market comes to the town for a few days and there is a quite a spectacular firework display put on. It is quite a crazy few days in town, but I do love heading in for the display, it’s a good job we don’t mind walking as I park miles away!
Being the last big holiday of the summer, it also marks the time when the island starts to quieten down a touch as the mainland Greeks and Italians head home after their holidays. The roads are already noticeably quieter, which is a relief.
Is in the dog box! MmmmMMmm, I’m really not happy with him, at all!
I’m not the best of gardeners. If green fingers were really a thing mine would be nearer white with just a hint of green!
This year I had a go at planting a few things. The terrific heat we had put an end to my veggie patch, but my little herb garden and sunflowers survived. Probably because they are (were) shaded by the orange trees.
My husband isn’t really a gardener either but is rather proud of his little patches of lawn (it’s a man of a certain age thing, I’m sure!). Well, the other day I came home from work to find all my little sunflowers gone! When I say little they were tiny, I’d bought a packet of mixed sunflower seeds and never realised sunflowers come in such small varieties, but they were still pretty!
I was gutted. They may have been tiny, but they attracted the birds (which I kept trying to photograph) and they were marked a small success in my attempt at being a gardener!
His excuse? They were tatty and all over the place. We are talking a small raised bed here, not the entire garden and I like tatty, it’s more natural (that’s my excuse!).
Not only that he’d also got rid of my chives, thinking they were a type of rogue grass! Really? If only he knew how hard it was keeping the chives going in the heat. I was really looking forward to them (hopefully) taking off in autumn.
Luckily for him, my other herbs went untouched!
Does your other half do things like that? I’m sure it’s not just mine!
Now on with the link up!
