Kiliomenos, Zakynthos
Last Sunday’s walk was around the village of Kiliomenos, Zakynthos. This quaint old Greek village has a lovely olde world atmosphere with its mix of old tumbledown buildings and some more modern builds. Many of our Sunday walks start in this area as it is surrounded by greenery and scenery and I can see why our walk leader chose to live there.
If you ever happen to visit Zakynthos and enjoy walking, Kiliomenos is a good place to head to. And if you are looking for a guide Derek would be only too pleased to help.
Sunday’s walks’ weather was very English. Not temperature wise, but in the way it changed. One minute it looked like rain and the next there wasn’t a cloud to be seen. On leaving home I actually tossed my waterproofs out of my bag it was that clear. It wasn’t long before I realised doing that probably wasn’t a good idea and I was lucky it didn’t rain.
Enough of my ramblings and time to share my photographs of Kiliomenos, Zakynthos.
Through My Lens #6
I have no idea what this bright blue building is, snuggled in the greenery. It certainly adds a splash of colour.
Being situated in the mountains the village of Kiliomenos has a cooler climate.
I really must get a UV filter for my lens. I’m thinking that that may help reduce the haziness a touch. Any advice?
I love paths like this. Taking us to the unknown (for me anyway, as my memory is so bad I can never remember where paths lead!).
Kiliomenos surrounded by greenery.
The locals (sheep) were wary of us.
The goats weren’t too friendly either.
Love this sign for the local taverna.
This healthy looking horse wasn’t in the least bit phased by us. In fact, we were more wary of her!
And up we climbed.
That is the sea in the distance. I love the sun rays breaking through the clouds.
There are plenty of hills to climb around Kiliomenos.
A better view of the sea in the distance.
Zakynthos in the distance.
I lag behind on purpose (honest), so I can get photos like this!
Can you spot the remains of the old stone farmhouse?
A closeup of the old stone farmhouse. I wonder what the history is behind it?
What a nice life these sheep have, roaming free in the hills.
You can imagine how good the view across Zakynthos must look on a clear day.
It has been known for me to be near the front of a walk (usually, because I am at the back when they turn round).
A sunny Sunday afternoon in autumn on Zakynthos. Just perfect…
Flowers In Autumn…
A lonely and confused wild iris. Normally we see plenty of these in spring.
Not sure what these pretty pink flowers are, but they were pretty enough to photograph.
How did you spend your Sunday afternoon?
