Stormy Skies

This week we have had a few off days. The stormy skies have been reminiscent of my days in England, with several weather changes in a day.

There have been days that started off well, but turned gray and thundery and there have been days that have started off looking pretty miserable only to go on and clear nicely.

On a not so good day Neal was given the day off from work, so we thought it wold be the perfect opportunity to take the dogs for a nice walk,without the fear of them lying down and refusing to move because of the heat.

Several times we got the dogs ready to go, only for it to tip down with rain and judging by the stormy skies we didn’t hold out much hope of actually getting out with the dogs, but once they’ve seen the leads the devil in them is well and truly released and they become painfully noisy. So really we had no choice, other than to take them.

We eventually got them in the car and was heading up the hill to the quarry, only for the heavens to open. We continued on, hoping it would stop and it did.

We managed to get a good hours walk before the heavens opened again getting us all wet as we headed back to the car.

And of course I took my camera…

On our walk we were expecting the stormy skies to open up and drench us, but the weather held until we were nearly back at the car.

You can’t really see it in this photo, but there were some really blue patches in the sea.

I never get fed up of admiring the views across Zakynthos.

    Debbie, these are some amazing photos! You are improving so fast, I'm sure that you've taken many images to get the perfect shot. But these are so gorgeous! You live in a special place. I remember what Rosie used to be like as soon as she saw her leash, she knew that we were going for a walk and we couldn't calm her until we went. The only thing she loved more was a car ride to my parents house! You couldn't even say my mom's name without here running to the door and sitting there whining until we left! LOL I'm glad that the rain held out long enough for you to capture this beauty and to take the dogs for their walk! I'm sure they loved it too!       Hi Sherry, we have barely had any rain this winter so we are in desperate need of all the rain we get. We don't have mains water here (the water is piped for so long everyday), and there has been talk of cutting the amount of water piped, so people are more careful. If we do run out we have to pay for a tanker of water and that's not cheap. I hope it cools down soon for you as that sounds like one hell of a long summer you've had! Thank you for stopping by. xx

      Hi Jen, a couple of weeks back we were hot and dusty, so be careful what you wish, it's only started raining out there again, those poor tourists must have been following how excellent the weather has been and now this...       Hi Izzie, I have no doubt that in a couple of months there will be excitement as England hits the highest temperatures ever! It makes me laugh every time I here it (I'm easily amused).     A much needed rain right? The last photo with that small island looks amazing! I like you cant go out without a camera. When it is raining I usually bring my son's.       Hi Merlinda, it was much needed rain indeed. I do find it difficult not to take the camera, but sometimes it's just not practical so I take the point and shoot. My big camera isn't waterproof, but I can do my waterproof up over it and I always carry a couple of plastic bags to put in in if need be and it fits in my backpack. I wouldn't risk my camera for a photo. Thank you for stopping by. xx

      Hi Laura, I do agree that the storms are much more spectacular here than I remember them being in the UK, especially after a heat wave. I thought I was going to have to visit the UK in a couple of weeks, but that fell through, and I am slightly disappointed as I would love to have taken photos of where I grew up in Devon.       Hi Sarah, we are lucky to live in such a beautful area, but I do remember England being beautiful too (I was lucky enough to grow up in Devon, which I would love to get back to explore with my camera!).       It is worse for the small dogs as the floor can get very hot. At the moment an early walk is best for them and once July and August comes the dogs don't get walked too often as they just lie around trying to stay cool (we do have a nice sized garden, so they can romp when they feel energetic enough).       Hi Jayne, you'll be back one day. It can be a nightmare as you walk so far and they just flop down, and we do think twice about when we take them. In the July and August they rarely get walked as the floor is just too hot for them. I would love to see a photo of you flaked out on the floor and refusing to move. That would be funny.     Stormy skies are the best! And seeing them over the Greek islands, when we are so used to seeing the gorgeous blues, is just marvelous. Great shots!       Hi Claudia, we have had very little ran this winter, so every bit counts. I think most people don't believe we get clouds over here. The mini mountains just beside us are a magnet for clouds and the bad weather will move round and seems to return to here. Luckily it never lasts too long. Thank you for stopping by. xx

    It's been raining here off and on since Friday. We are very happy about that since we live in a desert. Most of the time it's hot and dry for months. I'm glad you had a great walk.       Hi Sandee, it's a bit like that here too, so we don't really mind the rain and the storms can be quite something, especially at night.       Hi Louise, I'll never get bored of the views we get and the sky added to it that day. The greenery looks greener when the skies are angry, and can look washed out when the sun is shining, so it rarely looks the same. The dogs were happy and so were we. Thank you for stopping by. xx

    Beautiful. Sometimes you just have to ignore the weather and get out (I would say that as sunny days are rare in the UK, we've had a few this week though). Sometimes a good drenching can be fun, I hope the dogs enjoyed it.

      Hi Kate, the children are fully aware of how we used to walk to school in the rain in England. When it's chucking down I look out and have to make a quip about how wet I would have got as we didn't have a car back then and the buses were always full, so we had to walk whatever the weather. The dogs loved it as it wasn't hot and it wasn't too bad as the heavens opened as we were heading back to the car, which was quite fun.       Hi Christine, as we walked we could see the sea changing colour with the movement of the clouds. We don't really mind a dodgy few days over here (unless you happen to be on holiday) as we can weeks without sight of a cloud or months without rain.       Hi John, I can't begrudge you good weather over there as you get so little of it in comparison. Some of the storms we get are impressive and at times you can see several storms happening at once over different parts of the island or out at sea (the best ones are after really hot weather or a heatwave). The thunder can make the house rattle when it's overhead. Good job it doesn't worry us. Thank you for stopping by. xx
