A Track Clearing, Birthday Celebration
This week (hanging my head in shame) I realised I’ve become a camera snob. I honestly never saw it coming, so when I recently decided to leave my big camera at home (for practical reasons) in favour of my Nikon point and shoot (which has always worked well), I was surprised by how much I missed the old fashioned view finder and satisfying click of my big camera.
As many of you may know by now, this winter we have become a part of the Zakynthos Walking Group and look forward to a group walk on a Sunday. Well, the last few weeks a small group of us have also been lucky enough to have been able to do a Thursday walk too, exploring, having laugh and challenging ourselves a little bit more.
This past Thursday, we were on a mission to clear the track for a future group walk, up and around Marathia. It was also one of the group’s birthday and unbeknownst to her, we had a small birthday celebration planned.
Not only did we turn up armed with gloves, long handled loppers and pruners, we also had a small party stashed in our backpacks. We had cupcakes, fruit bread and cheese, a bottle of bubbly and a liter of orange juice, plus some party hats hidden away (my heart really went out to the lady carrying the bubbly, she had also been rather sensible and packed some orange juice, which must have weighed a ton on the steep walk up to the view point!).
Surprise! Let The Celebrations Begin…
It’s not every year you get to celebrate your birthday…
With a view like this…
And then the party began! We must have looked like a right daft lot of English people…
The compulsory group photo…
Notice how the men are getting down to business, whilst the women admire the view?
Someone won the lottery?
Where’s the strangest, most fun place you’ve celebrated your birthday?
