Yellow…
Is a colour often associated with spring. I always thought it was because it is the colour of many spring flowers. Buttercups, daffodils, primroses and pansies all come in various shades of yellow.
I like yellow. It’s a happy colour. But recently I have had enough of it, as every surface you can think of is covered with a fine layer of yellow. No, it’s not pretty yellow dust. It is in fact pollen. And this year has been a bad year for it.
As it’s almost summer, our windows and doors are always open, and living in a rural area we are surrounded by fields full of grasses, wild flowers, not to mention the olive and grape vine blossom (which I love). But this past week it’s been a rather breezy which has meant more yellow pollen being dissipated.
Our dining table can be wiped down in the morning only to need a another wipe a few hours later. I only have to leave my laptop out for a couple of hours for it to get a yellow hue. Cars, driveways and balconies are all covered in a thin layer of yellow pollen.
I can only imagine how much pollen has got into our soft furnishings and on the washing too.
All the pollen has affected hay fever sufferers badly too. I don’t even get hay fever and I’ve had to start using anti-histamine eye drops as my eyes keep streaming.
So it’s safe to say that yellow had to be my Word Of The Week.
