Recently I’ve been trying to focus on getting a better balance in my life and this past week I feel like I may have finally got there.
Why Balance Is Important…
For me balance is important because if I have nothing to focus on I get all out of sync and find it easy to procrastinate, but if I have too much to focus on I get highly stressed. Not good…My hair gets wilder, I start to get a crazy twinkle in my eyes and I find myself muttering constantly under my breath.
A couple of weeks back…
I started to feel like I had lost the balance in my life; one stressful day was leading to another. Being a thinker, I found myself over thinking things, which only added to the stress.
I was worried about Greg’s having to do military service (which he doesn’t!…).
I was worried about having to say goodbye to our old dog (who is still hanging in there).
I was worrying about Greg’s turning 18 in a few weeks…Sounds silly, as far as we know (and have been told) he will continue to get the help he needs, but as he is officially an adult things may change.
I was also worrying because Neal (my husband) has to reapply for his residency to stay in Greece. Being a South African means that he has to renew his residency every five years. We have never had a problem. So worrying seems a little silly really.
Greg’s finishes school in June, which had got me worrying about what on earth he is going to do when he leaves as studying on the mainland is not an option for him at the moment (maybe one day though)…. It only seems like yesterday that I was worrying about him starting school!
Worrying was seemingly becoming a habit.
So I decided it was time to take a step back, take a deep breath (hug a tree) and reintroduce balance back into my life.
This Past Week…
I have made an effort to have a better balance of stress in my life. I have chosen to stop worrying about the things I can’t do anything about (something I have tried to do since realizing that worrying is only a hindrance and never a help, but had recently forgotten that fact).
I have given myself more space to breath. To enjoy the simple things in life again.
I have been making a conscious effort of only allowing a healthy dose of stress.
Which has all been worth the effort as I am feeling calm and balanced again.
Do you have a healthy balance in your life? Or do you thrive on stress?
