Looking back over my week, I think my Word Of The Week has to be Music as at the beginning of the week I dedicated far too many hours to sorting out my old Sony Walkman MP3 devices.
I have two Walkman MP3 players, both of them are rather on the old side and as I look after them they are both in full working order.
I first bought one with only 1GB of memory as I wasn’t sure whether I would really use it or not. It wasn’t long before I realised that 1GB of memory didn’t hold enough music for the amount of time I spent listening to it.
So I went out and bought a 4GB one. My music collection now far exceeds 4GB, but I see no reason to buy a new device as in theory 4GB of music is plenty to listen to as it can hold up to 1000 songs (depending on formatting and duration of the song).
The Problem…
The major problem with these first Walkman MP3 players is that they came with their own SonicStage software. Which was the only way of transferring music to and from the devices. It was a pain in the bum to use and caused Sony to discontinue it and make all their Walkmans drag and drop. Which is far better.
But…
They stopped supporting their SonicStage devices, so anyone with a OS later than Windows XP will have problems transferring music and may find their Walkman is obsolete.
So…
When I finally got around to trying to sort out my music this week, I found that I couldn’t as we now have Windows 8.1 running on both the computers. And SonicStage isn’t downloadable onto a Windows 8.1 OS….Nice one Sony!
I went into forums asking for advice and was told that maybe I would be able to transfer my music using Windows Media player depending on the model of my Walkman….I tried it, with no luck.
I contacted Sony asking for advice and they got back to me pretty promptly, telling me that unless I still had Windows XP running and had a SonicStage CD (the CD is also available to buy from them) then my devices were obsolete.
After A Long Night Of Searching The Internet…
(I’m a bit like a dog with a bone when I want to know something).
I finally found a possible way of transferring and changing the music on my devices. I had to download and set up some music file software called JSymphonies, change some ‘paths’ on my MP3 players and Bobs your Uncle (hopefully).
It Worked!…
I now have new music to listen to on my MP3’s.
It took time and cost me a lot of sleep…I can no longer operate efficiently on four hours sleep. But I am chuffed to pieces that I managed to do it as I enjoy listening to my music and carry my MP3 player around with me in my bag for those moments when reading isn’t an option.
Will I Continue To Use Sony Devices To Listen To Music?…
I would have to say yes to that as I wouldn’t want to cut my nose to spite my face. For me you can’t beat Sony for sound quality and if you take the time to set up the equalizers you will really be listening to music at it’s best…..(In my humble opinion!).
Well that’s my #WotW for this week. Why don’t you pop over to Jocelyn Readings blog (The Reading Residence) where she hosts The Word Of The Week and check out what others are writing about!
