Change…
This weeks has been all about change.
On Wednesday, after a long summer, my husband finally finished his summer job of working in a hotel beach bar. Living on a Greek island means that summer working hours can be long and most summer jobs don’t come with a day off; unless you work for some of the larger holiday companies or work part time. My Hubby Dearest officially works nine thirty am to six thirty pm, but is often still working at seven! And that is for seven days a week, for at least five months or until the hotel has no more bookings.
It is great to have my husband round again and he will be taking some much earned time off before staring his winter work; which is doing maintenance and repairs to houses and holiday accommodation. In the winter he works Monday to Friday and is home at a reasonable time, which is at it should be!
Why Change?…
In our year we go through several changes, the big ones are when Hubby Dearest starts his summer job and when he finishes it. The change in routine puts me off kilter, I get distracted and our routine wobbles. The change can also cause some friction as times, as Hubby Dearest has to get used to not working such long hours and we have to get used to having him around. He has to try to slip back into our routine, which isn’t easy, as of course he wants to have his say as to how things are done.
We have a son who requires a lot of attention and guidance and he doesn’t cope too well with change. I always think that describing him as special needs makes him sound a lot worse than he actually is. I think that ‘different’ is a better way of describing Greg’s. He finds change unsettling and if routine is broken it’s hard to reel him in again…Like at the start or end of school holidays.
The Past Few Days…
I have had to get used to having Hubby Dearest around all day. He has been relaxing and getting on with things that he wants to get done before he starts his winter work.
Having him around does have its benefits, like on Thursday when Greg’s finished school early and couldn’t get a bus all the way home. I didn’t have to go and pick him up, as Hubby Dearest went for me. And yesterday I had company on my Friday shop, which was nice.
The downside today was he got into wood chopping mode this morning and we had three hours of listening to the chainsaw as he chopped up logs ready for when the temperatures drop (I shouldn’t moan really as I would be the first to moan if there were no logs small enough to fit into the burner!)…The weather has been stunning for October, so we haven’t even contemplated lighting the fire at night (yet!). He also lit a bonfire which I didn’t appreciate as I had washing out!…
This time next week I am sure that we will have all gotten used to the change and a new routine will be in place. Maybe if the weather stays like it is, we can cook our lunch on the barbecue! Look forward to it…
