We live in a society where it has become the norm to lay blame on people. When something goes wrong the first thing people do is to try to look for someone to blame. It’s a sad and negative reaction and it’s an action that no good can come from. It doesn’t leave anyone feeling good, not the person being blamed and certainly not the person doing the blaming.
This blame culture is enforced by law companies, that go out of their way to encourage people to lay blame for incidents that may well have been total accidents or unpreventable. Law companies are out to make money and what better way than to wave the compensation carrot right in front of peoples noses, after all money makes everything alright…..Or does it?
Yesterday while watching the news, I saw a group of people having a right go at David Cameron about the floods that are affecting the UK at the moment. Angry home owners affected by the floods are looking to blame someone for the damage the torrential rain and storms have caused, but will blaming the government for not preventing the floods, make things better? Will blaming the military for not helping enough, make things better? Will blaming local councils change anything?… I don’t think so!!
The weather is out of our control and there is no way that anyone could have foreseen the damage caused by the recent storms in the UK. Passing blame can be exhausting and that expended energy is best being used to tackle situation. I am not just referring to the flood and weather damage affecting the UK at the moment, I am on about any bad situation.
Not all incidents can be prevented or foreseen and there is not always someone who can be held responsible, no matter how hard you look. I have tried my best to instil in my children not to waste time and energy trying to look for someone to blame, but to rather deal with the situation. If someone can genuinely be held to blame then deal with that afterwards.
When things go wrong it is so easy to blame the wrong people or person, but blaming people doesn’t change things or make things better, dealing with situation or incidents does.
Those people I saw having a go at David Cameron, feel the need to blame someone for what they are going through, but no one could have predicted the scale of the damage to peoples homes and lively hood caused by the bad weather. Unfortunately the weather is out of our control. I am not judging those people, they have every right to be angry, I am just saying to anyone that maybe reading this post not to waste energy looking to lay blame for things. Don’t do it, it’s negative and draining and nothing comes of it.
There is nothing wrong with holding people responsible for their actions, but that is different from placing blame and still should only be done with a clear mind and all the facts. Life’s too short to get bitter and twisted, so please don’t waste it getting dragged into the blame game.
