Our Walk Above Dafni Beach, Zakynthos
Last Sunday, despite Zakynthos seeing the worst snowfall in I don’t know how long (several millimetres) some of us (brave souls) still headed out for a Sunday walk. At this point, I do feel that I have to be honest and say that the snowfall was fun but hardly heavy and it was perfectly safe (as you will tell from the snow free photographs), although it was bitterly cold.
Us brave few met up in the carpark at Banana Beach and headed into the hills above Dafni beach. Dafni beach is situated in the National Marine Park area on Zakynthos and has views right across Lagana bay. It is also another nesting beach for the Loggerhead turtles that visit the island in the summer.
The walk up the hill felt deceivingly warm, but the walk down was positively chilly.
Enough of the chat, it’s time to show you around.
Through My Lens #10
Don’t let the blue sky deceive you. It was bitterly cold.
It was a bit of a steep climb in places, but views like this made it worthwhile.
Looking back across the National Marine Park from above Dafni beach, Zakynthos.
One day we may even find a walk across the top of the hills.
The bay of Gerakas is clearly visible from the hills above Dafni. This is the photograph I used for the feature photo with a filter added.
A panoramic view across to Gerakas.
The low sun made the view across the Marine park quite beautiful.
As always it was a beautiful walk with lovely scenery.
A walk on Zakynthos wouldn’t be a walk without seeing a tumbledown building.
Or a nice stone building. This one probably acts as a shop or taverna during the summer.
Then Back To The Car Via Banana Beach
Then I saw him… Was this man waiting for little old me?… No, he was waiting to carry our little dog across the rough beach!
It was a beautifully clear day, with the mainland visible in the distance.
Parts of Banana beach were quite rough to walk on.
If you enjoy watersports Banana beach is the place to head to during your summer holiday.
Other Things We Saw On Our Walk
After a few grunts, this pig decided we weren’t a major threat… The grass must have been mighty tasty.
This family of sheep were a bit more wary of us.
A new tractor or a tractor proud farmer?
I loved the colours of the acorns on the floor.
These blue flowers looked so pretty and delicate on the bushes.
It’s the time of year when the narcissi start to show their pretty little heads.
Have you ever visited Dafni beach, Zakynthos?
