Askos And Elies
Last week the Zakynthos walking group headed up to the top of the island for a cheeky midweek walk. The temperature was bracing (for us anyway) and snow was clearly visible on Kefalonia, but it was good to get out and about again. The walk took place around the Askos and Elies area and what a beautiful area that is!
The drive there is probably one of the furthest to a walk for us, taking us the best part of an hour to get there, along a winding coastal road. And every time we drive it I end up feeling a little green around the gills, but it’s always worth it for the views. And it was nice to meet up with a few of the bunch and get moving during that ‘twilight’ time between Christmas and New Year.
So enough chatting now, here are the photographs I took around Askos and Elies…
Through My Lens #9
Donkeys are such characters. This one hardly batted an eyelid when we invaded its space.
These deer were just as interested in us as we were them.
I would love to know what their thoughts on us were.
It was nice to get moving again, although it was eye wateringly cold.
This olive tree has a prime view out to sea. It is a rather grand looking tree, don’t you think?
Anyone forgot where they parked their camper van?
Oh, the riffraff we encounter on our walks!
It is nice to see the old village houses being maintained nicely.
Some of the houses are a little on the pokey side.
I wonder how old this tumbledown building is?
Looking back towards Alykes and Alykanas. I dabbled in black and white for a change.
There’s that riffraff again…
There is always time to stop and enjoy the surroundings. With a nibble of course!
It all makes for an interesting walk.
There was no shortage of hills to climb.
The views justify the climb.
What goes up, must come down.
The views from this house, once it is finished, will be something else.
There seem to be a lot of stone buildings in the Askos and Elies area.
These goats did not know what to make of us. They were unsettled but still curious.
Someone’s home.
And For The Final Photo, We Have…
Snow on Kefalonia.
Well, that was our walk around the Askos and Elies area on Zakynthos.
