Monday’s Supermoon
As many of us saw, last Monday’s moon was a supermoon. The moon’s orbit of the earth is on an elliptical path, meaning that every now and again it passes closer to the earth than usual, giving us a full moon that is bigger and brighter than normal.
I have to be honest and say that until a couple of years ago I had never heard of the term ‘supermoon’. I must have been living under a rock or something as I’m sure the orbit of the moon hasn’t changed in recent years. But interests change and terminology changes, so maybe I just didn’t realise what ‘experts’ were referring to before they named a supermoon a supermoon!
Last Monday’s moon was the closest it has been for something like sixty-nine years, appearing 14% larger than normal. The next time the moon will be so close will be eighteen years from now. That is some wait if you happened to miss Monday’s moon!
Of course, I took some photos of the moon last Monday and saved this photo for My Sunday Photo…
My Sunday Photo
This was the moon as seen from my rooftop over the village of Pantokratoras at around 6.30am.
Did you get to see the moon last Monday?
