My Social Media Profiles Were In Desperate Need Of An Update
I’ve wanted to update my social media profiles for sometime now, but have been dragging my feet somewhat in the hope that a decent photo of myself may actually be taken. I’ve now resigned myself to the fact that I’m just not very photogenic and miracles just aren’t going to happen.
Last year my excuse was that I was the one taking the photos. This year however I have no real excuse, as plenty of people in the Zakynthos Walking Group take photos and are kind enough to let me use them if I’d like.
About two months ago I whittled my choices of potential profile pictures down to three and there I stopped. I did ask friends and family for their opinions, which didn’t really help because there was no clear winner and more off puttingly, my favourite photo was not probably the least favoured.
At the start of the week I decided that this was going to be the week that I finally get around to updating my social media profiles. I even decided that my Tuesday post was going to ask readers to vote for which profile picture to use. I got as far as finding a poll plugin and chickened out as I was about to write the post, so there was no post on Tuesday, but I got around a few blogs instead (there’s always a silver lining, you’ve just got to look).
Why didn’t I write the post? I hear you ask… Well, what if no one voted for the photo that I think resembles me the best? You see, I want my profile picture to help people see me as the person I am, and a full on head and shoulder shot isn’t me.
Why I Chose This Photo
As soon as I saw this photo I liked it, which was a rarity in itself, but I felt it was me. I was totally unaware that the photo was being taken (too busy watching my footing, with my hands full to notice) and what I like about it is that I’m my usual scruffy self, juggling several things at once and I’m happy.
You don’t have to be able to see my face to know I’m happy, after all who wouldn’t be happy clambering through bushes after taking some beautiful photos with their dog in tow? Being out and about exploring Zakynthos with the Zakynthos Walking Group has been my most favourite activity this winter…No rude comments about the dog please, he maybe small, but he’s almost all dog.
Why I Didn’t Choose These Photos
I really like this photo taken by a friend, but it’s too dark. I tried to lighten it up slightly on PicMonkey, but it didn’t look right. I even had another friend try to work some magic with it using Photo Shop, but to no avail.
This photograph was another good contender for the position of new profile picture, except it’s very similar to my old one (except I’m older and hopefully wiser) and it’s slightly grainy. I think it was taken by a friend on her phone (you don’t want to see my expression if a stranger takes a photo!).
Updating Social Media Profile Blurb
I don’t know if you are anything like me, but once I get an idea in my head my brain won’t let it go, so whatever I’ve been doing this, my mind has been mulling over what social media profile blurb to include with my new profile picture. Which I find very difficult as some of the blurb is character restricted, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this girl can waffle. To be honest, what can anyone say in 140 characters?
So tell me, when was the last time you updated your social media profiles? What do you find more difficult, finding a photo or writing the blurb?
