Just had to be my Word of the Week (although hurting came a close second!).
This week I started my job managing a holiday villa for the summer. The word ‘managing’ is just a posh word for looking after the villa and guests who will be staying there.
After the villa owner left, it was my responsibility to make sure the villa was spotless for the first guests arrival. So I headed up there, armed to the kilt with cleaning products, scrubbing brushes and rubber gloves. I estimated that it would take me two solid days of cleaning to eliminate any evidence that the villa owner is male and a bachelor.
How Wrong I Was…
In all it took me thirty four hours of solid cleaning. One day I was up there eleven hours and was so tired I nearly cried.
I scrubbed everything. I scrubbed every single cupboard in the villa. Washed every single pan, dish, plate and all the cutlery. The coffee pots are gleaming like new as is the oven and extractor fan.
Being a three bedroomed villa, with stunning views there were also a lot of windows to be cleaned.
By the end of the thirty four hours I was all scrubbed out, and I was hurting in places I never thought I could, from all the bending, stretching and twisting into awkward positions, so as to reach all those awkward hard to reach places.
When I Met The First Guests…
I knew that the villa was spotlessly clean, something, I might add, I’m not sure my house has ever been.
I have to admit that although it was hard work, it was satisfying work. It wasn’t like cleaning at home, where you can spend hours tiding up and cleaning through the house, only to turn around two minutes later and see nothing looks any different.
So that was my #WotW. What’s yours?… Word Of The Week is hosted by Jocelyn Reading on her blog The Reading Residence. Why not pop over and check it out?
