I can see this weeks Mommy Reality Challenge hosted by Jen and Celeste is going to produce some classic photographs that most of us would rather leave unseen; but that would be no fun now would it?
For anyone who is unaware of what the #MommyReality Challenge is all about, it’s basically a fun weekly photographic challenge where us Mums share a glimpse into the true reality of our lives. Children eating left over dinners and wearing odd socks. Kitchen sinks brimming with dishes and handbags full of receipts. That sort of thing.
This Weeks #MommyReality Challenge Is…
To share a picture of ourselves before children. To be honest I battle to remember back that far!..Not that my children are that old, it’s just that my memory started failing me at around the same time as my first pregnancy. Well, that’s my excuse and I am sticking with it!
Now For My Before Children Picture…
This is photographic evidence that there was life before children. Not a nappy or a wrinkle in sight! I had to dig deep to find this picture as sadly we lost a lot of old photographs of us together before getting married, when a box we stored them in got damp and we had to throw a whole load away. If only I had put them into albums as I had intended!
I was about twenty two in this photograph and Neal was twenty six and at the time we were living in a quiet area on the River Kromme in South Africa. I worked the day shift in a bar back then and Neal worked in the local chemist. Our evenings were spent walking the dog, fishing, reading or just playing games as we didn’t have mains electric, all our electricity was solar, so we only had a small black and white television that we rarely watched as it would eat the solar battery power. And we would often find ourselves relying on gas lamps for light during the winter months.
The toilet was a long drop out back and I had many a melt down encountering huge (and I mean huge) spiders in there. Give me a snake over a spider any day!
Life was simple, but we had fun. The house/shack was eventually torn down and replaced with a very nice permanent house with electricity and all mod cons. I have no doubt that my children will gasp in horror if they read this….What no computer/electricity/indoor flushing toilet?…Oh, the horror!
So that’s my life before children picture; are you brave enough to share yours? Why not pop over and join in the link up? Jen and Celeste are great at sharing the photographs on their social media sites, just don’t forget to add #mommyreality so they can find you.
