I know I am linking up rather late with my Word Of The Week, but better late than never and as I missed last weeks link up I didn’t want to miss this weeks! I missed last weeks link with good reason…My sister and her family surprised us with a two week holiday! We had not been all together for over four years, so it was a wonderful surprise.
For that reason my Word Of The Week must be Together.
Together…
Family is important. If there is one thing I miss living in Greece, it’s being near my sister and her family. We were close growing up and got on well. Yes, we had our bickers, but nothing major…We had to share a bedroom and apparently I was too untidy for her liking; I can’t remember her ever being particularly tidy, but then again it was a long time ago.
I left home to travel when I was twenty one and that was it really, as I never went back to the UK to live. Before having family of her own, Jack used to come over to Greece for her holidays and we would spend time together, but once she got married and had her two children understandably things changed. We have managed to get back to the UK a couple of times and they here a couple of times, but it’s nowhere near often enough.
The Recent Surprise…
Mum and Dad live here in Greece too and Mum was aware of them coming as one of the children had let it slip whilst she was staying with them. Maddie and Finlay are only seven and four, so it was a big secret for them to keep and they just couldn’t manage it whilst being in the presence of their Grandma for a couple of weeks…That’s children for you!
Mum had been going on about meeting up for a drink with other friends who were coming out on holiday on the Thursday. I said I’d rather meet up a couple of days later, so they could relax for a couple of days on their own; but Mum was pretty insistent that we meet up on the Thursday, so in the end I agreed….And I am so glad I did!
They all met up for a meal and we said we’d catch up with them afterwards. When we turned up at the taverna we were greeted at the entrance by the friends we were expecting and they led us around the corner to two children…Who were my niece and nephew! It didn’t take too long for me to put one and one together and realize that if the little ones were here then so was my sister and her husband!
Two Weeks Of Being Together…
We had a lot of catching up to do. The last time I had seen my niece and nephew in the flesh Finlay was just a baby five months and Maddie was about two years old. We spent as much time as we could together and the time just flew by. I had my niece and nephew for a sleepover and they enjoyed spending time with their big cousins.
Just being together was great; Mum, Dad, me, my sister and our families.
Now They Have Gone…
They left three days ago, on the day that my two had to go back to school, which was rather well timed! It already feels like a distant memory. It was such a surprise and the time went so quickly that it feels like it never really happened.
I am also not as organized as I would like to have been for the new school year. Usually we start getting back into a better ‘school’ routine at the beginning of September to lessen the blow when school actually starts, but that didn’t happen. I am sure though by the end of this week it will feel like the school holidays never happened!
