I joined Blipfoto just over a week ago, after discovering the site whilst browsing through the blog Lisa’s Life. At first I clicked on the widget in Lisa’s sidebar only to checkout the photographs she had displayed there, but when I clicked the link I discovered that Blipfoto was a site where anyone can keep a journal of their photographs. And I liked the idea.
I am no big photographer and have had very little experience with taking photos, but I do enjoy trying to capture a moment or an image. And having recently purchased a new Nikon Coolpix camera, after our very old Kodak camera died on us, I was more than interested in joining Blipfoto.
Joining Blipfoto is free, although you can upgrade to a paid for membership where there are added extras, but for now I am content with the free membership. What I like about the site is that you can only post one image a day in your journal and the picture must have been taken on that day, the site even knows when the picture was taken when you upload it – isn’t technology great!!
At first I did think I would battle to actually come up with one image a day, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how I am noticing more photo opportunities than I did before. It doesn’t matter if you don’t post an image everyday though, and if you don’t get time to upload an image on a specific day you can always do it at a later date, as the site picks up when the picture was taken and marks it on your journal calendar.
Enough of the waffling on though! I would now like to present to you my first week of images on Blipfoto:
Image #1.
The first photograph I put in my Blipfoto journal was one I had taken the week before I joined the site and is of Flossy the abandoned dog we recently adopted.
When you join Blipfoto with the free membership you can add photographs that were taken up to three months before joining, a paid up member can add any photograph from their anytime in their lives.

For my second entry I was lucky enough to get this shot of a loose dog wandering around Zakynthos harbour front. He had obviously had a busy day and was dog tired – sorry couldn’t help myself!
Image #3.
This old Greek kiosk is in the process of being dismantled. Once upon a time there were plenty of kiosks, but now they are all closing as they cannot compete with the bigger supermarket prices.

I was rather pleased with my forth entry. As I said I am no photographer, but I took this picture whilst taking the dogs for their evening walk and it came out much better than I had hoped – thank goodness for digital cameras though, as I probably took twenty snaps to get this image.

Entry number five is of the young swallows that are being reared in one of the nests on our balcony. I have written a post about Our Amazing Returning Swallows that return every summer to nest on our balcony, but this is the first year we have ever had more than one nest; this year we are lucky enough to be able to witness three pairs of swallows raising their young. To get this picture I used a step ladder to get me on a more even level with the swallows.

This picture I actually took for a post I wrote about the Importance Of Drinking Enough Water. I originally planned just to take a photograph of a glass of water, but then tried to make it a little more interesting by taking the photo as I poured water into the glass. So the image won’t win any awards, but I was pleased with the effect.

This was the final photograph of my first week on Blipfoto. I noticed this gecko whilst hanging up the washing one morning and couldn’t resist grabbing my camera. We do get a lot of geckos and lizards around, especially at night. This was quite a big gecko that had obviously got into a tussle with something and lost it’s tail, as if you look closely you can see the regrowth.
I hope you have enjoyed looking through my first week on Blipfotos as much as I enjoyed taking the photos. I do hope to continue being inspired to take photographs of everyday things to post in my Blipfoto journal. Taking a photograph everyday or most days means that some things I take pictures of are things that I never would have normally, which I think and hope will make for interesting browsing in the future.
I would like to add that there is nothing to be gained from being on Blipfoto, you don’t earn money or get paid for the photos, it is a site you join just for the pleasure of it. It’s fun and inspiring and afterall how long does it take to take one photo a day?
